Kelso Civic Week 2001
This year, 2001, was unusual for all the wrong reasons. For the first time since the Second World War, there was no Kelso Laddie to lead Kelso's Civic Week celebrations. The Foot & Mouth crisis meant that no farmland was accessible to the riders and their followers, therefore it was decided that there should be no equestrian events.
The Principals from the year 2000 agreed to continue in office for another year and to represent Kelso at other Common Ridings as appropriate.
To replace the ride-out to Yetholm, for this year, there was a Sponsored Cycle Race of 28 miles, which went via Sprouston to Kirk Yetholm, down to Town Yetholm, across to Morebattle Tofts and back to Kelso. The fastest to complete the route, in the three age categories, were declared the winners.
